A mature Morris County tree entered the market this week, immediately drawing interest from first-time homeowners, lumber investors, beavers and representatives believed to be affiliated with the Keebler organization.
The property is being offered For Sale By Owner, an unusual choice in the increasingly competitive North Jersey timber market.
The tree is described as move-in ready with strong roots, ample trunk space and established bird tenancy. Delivery is not included. Buyer must pick it up.
Local analysts cautioned prospective buyers to act quickly. Wood like this doesn’t stay on the market very long.
Financing options remain unclear, although a Section 8 branch may be available lower on the trunk.
There are also concerns about existing occupants. Several squirrels have reportedly claimed long-term tenancy, while area beavers complain that the listing does not adequately target their demographic.
One prospective buyer said he hoped to flip the property and convert it into a fence. Another asked about rent-to-own terms.
The seller declined to comment on whether the Keebler elves had already submitted an offer.
In a later development, Facebook’s automated systems apparently took renewed interest in the listing, prompting concern that the platform had mistaken the sale of an actual tree for narcotics trafficking. This has done little to calm the local bark market.
